WH Downgrades HBCU Conference, Hosts HBCU Summit Instead
The White House did eventually cancel their planned HBCU conference after multiple pleas for them to do so and some concern from HBCU presidents over their participation. They are, instead, planning an HBCU summit which will be held September 17-18th, at the White House Eisenhower Executive Office Building. The conference was slated to be held at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Virginia. According to the invite, the tentative agenda includes an invitation only Student Ambassadors Dinner on Sunday. And on Monday, the WH will discuss their perspective on the HBCU Executive Order and future plans for an actual conference. They will also discuss capital financing for HBCUs.
