Carson Scrubs Anti-Discrimination Language From HUD Mission

Secretary Ben Carson’s HUD is the latest department to remove language that echoes diversity from its mission statement. HUD has now removed a phrase about keeping “inclusive and sustainable communities free from discrimination” from its mission statement. The change was announced in a March 5th memo, obtained by HuffPost, from HUD Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Amy Thompson. In it, Thompson wrote that the statement was being changed “in an effort to align HUD’s mission with the Secretary’s priorities and that of the Administration.” The new mission statement now reads: “HUD’s mission is to ensure Americans have access to fair, affordable housing and opportunities to achieve self-sufficiency, thereby strengthening our communities and nation.” Carson had direct input in its rewriting, Thompson said. More here.
