NBCBLK Gets New Managing Editor
NBC News has announced that Todd Johnson is joining the NBC News Digital team as Editorial Manager for NBCBLK. Todd is currently Managing Editor of theGrio.com. He takes the helm of NBC’s African American vertical on March 5th. Todd joined theGrio.com as a Video Journalist and Reporter shortly after it launched in 2009. Since then, the Northwestern graduate has covered a variety of news events, making trips to Haiti following the devastating earthquake in 2010 and reporting on the impact of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and the Ferguson protests in 2014. He also served as the site’s Sports Editor. NBCBLK was created in January 2015 to elevate America’s conversation about Black identity, social issues and culture. “I’m very excited to be leading NBC BLK’s editorial efforts and join the NBC News Digital team,” said Johnson. “I want NBC BLK to be able to tell compelling original stories and challenge the narratives surrounding race, identity and culture.” NBCBLK’s founding Managing Editor, Amber Payne, departed last year to join Teen Vogue as an Executive Producer.
