Booker Pledges No More Corporate PAC Money

Senator Cory Booker (D-NY) took to Twitter on Tuesday night to announce that he would no longer take campaign contributions from corporate PACs. “I heard from constituents today asking about corporate PAC contributions. I’m joining several of my colleagues & no longer accepting these contributions,” Booker tweeted. “Our campaign finance system is broken ... it’s time to pass campaign finance reform.” The Democratic group End Citizens United has been lobbying candidates to pledge not to accept corporate PAC money. The group takes its name from a controversial 2010 SCOTUS ruling that found the government cannot restrict political contributions from corporations, and Booker is the fifth Senator so far -- and the first Senator of color -- to take the anti-corporate PAC money pledge. The group Open Secrets, which tracks campaign contributions, reports that Booker accepted $1.8 million from business PACs from 2013-2018. More here.
